Tenacity doesn’t make life easy, but flourishes it through
The Poem
Before the After
In the midst of a land of waste
Arms outstretched to the purple casted skies
A plea to make this life easy
A bird perched on the shoulder
Dreamt lyrics by moon, humming in the sun
Gentle parts of his spirit being sung
A melodious reminder, soft and true
Tenacity doesn’t make life easy
But flourishes it through
-Laura Van Moorleghem Poetry
Field Note
While gathering paint onto the brush, a bird perched itself upon the arm of a tree. Whistling melodious tunes indulging the gentle parts of his spirit, perhaps dreaming his lyrics in the moon to sing in the pastel sun. And as he sung, for no audience in particular, I began wondering about his life here, hopelessly barren but a sense of liveliness rooted deep within it. Looking from the bird to the horizon, boulders casted shadows on sparse trees, rooted in sand, whose arms outstretched to the purple casted sky. Perhaps a plea to be given an easier life than the one given to them. A prayer left unanswered, but tenacity rooting itself deep within, symbolizing survival, and providing life where there should have been none. For it’s in their persistence the bird perched on its shoulder can sing his song with joy. For tenacity doesn’t make life easy but flourishes it through.
